KORSAKOW-SYSTEM

by Florian Thalhofer

The Korsakow-System is an easy-to-use computer program for the creation of database films.

Korsakow-Films are films with a twist

They are interactive - the viewer has influence on the film.

They are rule-based - the author desides on the rules scenes relate to each other, he does not create a fixed order.

They are generative - the order of the scenes is calculated while the viewer looks at a Korsakow-project.

Korsakow-projects can only be viewed on a computer. They are delivered via internet-streaming, DVD-Rom or CD-Rom.

[Forgotten Flags]

A sea of black, red and gold. The 2006 Soccer World Cup changed the way Germans perceived their own country. What is left over half a year later? Juliane Henrich and I traveled 2562 km all over Germany to talk to people that still have a German flag outside their houses.

The offline-version of [Vergessene Fahnen] will be released on DVD by Mediamatic, Amsterdam in July 2007. [Vergessene Fahnen] is done with the next version of Korsakow, featuring flexible interface layout.

[13terStock]

This building is under video surveillance: Writer Kolja Mensing and filmmaker Florian Thalhofer have spent the summer in the Grohner Dune, a high rise housing complex on the outskirts of Bremen. Their interactive documentary film [13thFloor] tells about big dreams and small worlds, beautiful living and safe environment. Like in real life, stories occur simultaneously, not one after the other. Anguish, architecture and adventure are just a mouse-click apart. Change starts at the edge...

[13terStock] is also available on DVD-Rom: www.amazon.de
